SYMPTOM

After applying an Exchange Server July 2021 Security update, when users try to logon to OWA using their credentials and captcha (if applicable), the process does not reach the recent activity page and will eventually time out just to be redirected back to the OWA logon page.

SOLUTION 1

There appears to be an unexpected behavior when EPG or OWA Guard's recent activity page is enabled. To temporarily overcome the issue, please turn off the Recent Activity Page as follows:

Exchange Protocol Guard:

  • Connect to EPG's Web Admin (https://<web administration URL> / epg-admin)
  • Navigate to Rules
  • For each Rule
    • Select the Options tab
    • Select Hide Recent Activity Page
    • Click Save to commit the changes
  • Wait 5 minutes for the system configuration to be automatically updated and restore expected OWA login. There is no need to restart any services.

OWA Guard:

  • Open OWA Guard's Web Admin (https://<web administration URL> / og-admin)
  • Navigate to Rules
  • For each Rule
    • Select the Options tab
    • Select Hide Recent Activity Page
    • Click Save to commit the changes
  • Wait 5 minutes for the system configuration to be automatically updated and restore expected OWA login. There is no need to restart any services.
