SUMMARY
Entries in EPG-Reports show that the user/device is in a different location than it should be.
Example: An employee is traveling to London, UK for vacation. She works in Houston, Texas. Two days after her vacation started, the EPG administrator notices in EPG Reports that this user's phone connection is still coming from Houston, Texas, although it is expected to come from London, UK.
POSSIBLE REASONS
- User had logged on the device in Houston but forgot to take it with them when they went on vacation and now the device is trying to connect from time to time
- User has another device, possibly an older model, that is still configured to receive e-mail, and this device has been left behind in Houston
- IP ranges can be reassigned to different geolocations, and may not be shown correctly by the Geolocation provider
- User's device has a mobile carrier plan which has roaming. The phone connects back to the carrier's location of origin so that the plan usage can be calculated for billing purposes
- User is connecting via a corporate or privacy VPN that is proxying the overseas connection from a local IP in Houston
