Unable to establish a SQL connection to database when installing EPG/OWA Guard

SUMMARY

When installing EPG/OWA Guard, the installer is unable to establish a SQL connection to the database.

 

SYMPTON

 

A SQL error message is displayed “A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.

 

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, please check the following

  1. A firewall on SQL is configured to allow the Exchange Server to connect on SQL port (by default 1433,1434)
  2. All SQL Services are running including ‘SQL Server’ and ‘SQL Server Browser’
  3. The correct Server name is being typed matching instance name as seen in SQL Management Studio
  4. Correct Database name and SA credentials are being used
