This article applies to the following products:

  • Messageware Exchange Protocol Guard 2019
  • Messageware Exchange Protocol Guard 2016
  • Messageware Exchange Protocol Guard 2013

SUMMARY

Corporate Device Recognition can be incorporated with Messageware EPG to provide users on company owned devices a specific set of Messageware EPG functionality.

Devices are tagged by editing the browser’s user agent string; this article describes how this can be achieved when using the following browsers:

  • Internet Explorer (Windows)
  • Mozilla Firefox (Windows and Mac)

STEPS

This section was divided into the following parts:

  1. Configuring the user agent string in the EPG Administration Page
  2. Configuring the user agent string in the browser settings

Configuring the user agent String in the EPG Administration Page

  1. Open up a browser and type in the following URL: https://<server_name>/epg-admin
  2. Click on Captcha Rules and select the desired rule (i.e. External Settings)
  3. Click on the Edit button beside Corporate Device Recognition
    • Click on Add new record to enter a new User Agent tag
    • Example: Corporate_Device_User; ( Corporate_Device_User)
  4. Click on Insert, Update and Save to accept the changes

Configuring the user agent String in the Browser settings

The user string is configured per browser on the client machine. Below are the details on how to configure the user agent string for the following browsers: Internet Explorer (Windows); Mozilla Firefox (Windows and Mac)

Internet Explorer (Windows)

  1. On the Client machine, open the registry editor (regedit)
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform
  3. In the right frame, right-click and select New\String Value
  4. Enter the name of value.
    • The name is the User Agent tag entered in the Messageware EPG Administration page
  5. No value data is required
  6. Close the registry editor

(Note: when using Internet Explorer to access OWA via Exchange Forms-based Authentication, choosing the Basic client option overwrites the asset tag and therefore the user agent cannot be distinguished)

Mozilla browsers including Mozilla Firefox (Windows and Mac)

  1.  Open a new Mozilla browser window
  2. In the address bar type about:config and press Enter
  3. Create a new String and name it general.useragent.extra.<Enter a relevant title>
    • Example: general.useragent.extra.AttachViewLaptop
  4. Provide a value which will be the user agent string
    • Example: Corp_Device_User
    • (NOTE: This value will be visible in the user agent string)
  5. Close the browser and open a new browser

MORE INFORMATION

Please note that research has indicated that the user agent tag cannot be configured for Safari browser on the Mac.
