“Log On To…” restriction in Active Directory may cause repeated logon prompts in Outlook

This article applies to the following products:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2019
  • Microsoft Exchange 2016
  • Microsoft Exchange 2013

SUMMARY

“Log On To…” restriction in Active Directory may cause repeated logon prompts in Outlook.

SOLUTION

  • In the “Log On To…” screen (title: “Logon Workstations”), add both the name of the Exchange Server(s) and the user’s computer name where the user is connecting from.

If the logon prompts continue, please enable Logon Failure auditing in Group Policy, and review Event ID 4625 on the Exchange Server.  In the event details, it will mention a WORKSTATION name.  Add this name to the Logon Workstations above for the user’s account in Active Directory.
