SUMMARY
This article includes steps on how to verify the Messageware Admin Center (MAC) and Messageware suite product versions are installed and upgrade paths based on the software being planned to update on the Exchange server environment.
Note: Please consider the following items prior to applying an update.
- The Exchange server must be restarted following a CU or SU installation per Microsoft instructions. This step will finalize any pending Exchange updates and place the server in a clean state
- Post Messageware software update on the Exchange server(s), one of the following options will need to be completed:
- Option 1 - Recycle MSExchangOWAPool and AttachViewAppPool from Application Pools in IIS Manager
- Option 2 - Restart World Wide Web Publishing Service
IDENTIFY VERSION
The steps below will cover how to identify the version of the Messageware software that’s currently installed in the server(s)
- Log into the Messageware Admin Center (MAC) (http://servername/MAC)
- Click on Deploy
- Check the version of the software in the right-hand information window
- Please consult the “Messageware – Microsoft CU Compatibility Matrix” to determine the matching Microsoft / Messageware version.
- The PDF matrix is located in Product Updates of the Customer Portal
- Visit the Customer Portal URL and provide your customer number and product license key

UPGRADE OPTIONS
Identify the upgrade path which best matches your upgrade plan.
Perform an Exchange CU or SU upgrade but Messageware suite products version remain unchanged
Perform an Messageware suite product upgrade only but CU or SU version remains unchanged
Apply both CU or SU and Messageware suite product updates
Note: Please consider the following preparation prior to the start of upgrades
- Multi-role (Front-End + Mailbox) Exchange servers should be placed in maintenance mode in addition to user logon traffic being temporarily diverted to an alternate multi-role Exchange server from the organization’s load balancer
Upgrade Option 1
Perform an Exchange Cumulative Update or Security Update, the Messageware suite product version remains unchanged
Load Balancer and Exchange Considerations
- Perform the necessary load balancer configuration and set Exchange server to maintenance mode as/if needed
Exchange CU or SU Installation
- Verify OWA login connectivity from your client’s browser and connect directly to the Exchange server URL (ex. https://servername/owa)
- Avoid connecting to the organization’s email URL (ex. https://mail.company.com/owa)
- Perform the CU or SU on the Exchange server
- When upgrade has completed, reboot the Exchange server
Run MasterInstaller
- Navigate to the temp extracted location and launch MasterInstaller.exe with elevated administrative permissions
- Connect to server where MAC is being hosted (Exchange or Application server) and follow the wizard. It may refresh Messageware files as needed.
- The MAC URL should show up pre-populated
Verify OWA with Messageware Suite Product Functionality
- From your client session, clear all browser’s cache history and close all browser sessions
- Login to OWA with the active mailbox test account to verify the Messageware suite product functionality
- Connect directly to the Exchange server URL (ex. https://servername/owa)
- Avoid connecting to the organization’s email URL (ex. https://mail.company.com/owa)
Return Exchange Server to Production Duty
- Place the Exchange server out of Maintenance Mode
- Re-instate the Exchange server back to rotation in load balancer
Upgrade Option 2
Perform an Messageware Suite product upgrade only, CU or SU version remains unchanged
Load Balancer and Exchange Consideration
- Perform the necessary load balancer configuration and set Exchange server to maintenance mode as/if needed
Obtain Messageware Suite Product Zip Package
- Download the appropriate Messageware Suite product version by connecting to the Messageware Customer Portal
- Note: See Identify Version section to assist with Messageware Suite product version identification and CU compatibility matrix
- Save zip and extract to a temporary location
Verify and Upgrade Messageware Admin Center (MAC)
- From the Exchange or Application server, launch Programs and Features either from the Start button or Control Panel
- Verify the installed version of Messageware Admin Center with the included MSI from the extracted ZIP package (AdminCenter_Setup_v.1.5.XXXX.MSI)
- If an upgrade is required, select the MAC entry and choose Uninstall to remove (product settings will remain in unaffected)
- Launch the extracted MSI (AdminCenter_Setup_v.1.5.XXXX.MSI) and follow the wizard (No need to modify the folder path as previous installation path will be applied)
Upload Messageware Program and Update Deployment Plan
- Connect to MAC URL (ex. https://servername/MAC)
- Select Products and click Add Products button to upload the necessary Messageware zip files (ex. AttachView, Common Framework)
- Return Home, select Deploy and click Edit Deployment Plan button
- Select the updated program version(s) found in the list and Save the changes
- This will contain the text “Updated Version Found”
Run MasterInstaller
- Navigate to the extracted zip location and launch MasterInstaller.exe with elevated administrative permissions
- Connect to server where MAC is being hosted (URL should be pre-populated) to deploy the Messageware Suite product(s)
- Follow the wizard to verify the information and action the Masterinstaller.exe will carry out
- This MasterInstaller.exe will take care of removing the older Messageware Suite program(s) version and install the updated software selected from the Deployment Plan
- You must choose one of the following options post Messageware software update on the Exchange server(s):
- Option 1 - Recycle MSExchangOWAPool and AttachViewAppPool from Application Pools in IIS Manager
- Option 2 - Restart World Wide Web Publishing Service
Verify OWA with Messageware Suite Product Functionality
- From your client, clear all browser’s cache history and close all browser sessions
- Login to OWA with the test mailbox account that’s active on the server to verify the Messageware suite product functionality
- Connect directly to the Exchange server URL (ex. https://servername/owa)
- Avoid connecting to the organization’s email URL (ex. https://mail.company.com/owa)

- Place the Exchange server out of Maintenance Mode
