How to verify and upgrade to the latest version of Messageware OWA Guard 2016 and Messageware OWA Guard 2013

SUMMARY


This article includes steps on how to verify the version of the Messageware OWA Guard installed on the Exchange server, including information on how to upgrade to the latest available versions when performing an Exchange 2016 or Exchange 2013 CU upgrade.


We strongly suggest you perform a reboot of Exchange servers following the completion of the CU upgrade first.  This step will finalize any pending Windows updates and place the server in a clean state.


Please note the World Wide Web Publishing Service will need to be stopped/started during the Upgrade process.


VERIFY VERSION


Find below the steps to verify the version of Messageware software installed so you are aware of all relevant servers requiring updates.  You will be uninstalling and re-installing the OWA Guard components on each appropriate server.


  1. Open a Remote Desktop Connection into the server where OWA Guard is installed
  2. Navigate to Programs and Features
  3. Locate Messageware OWA Guard
  4. The version of the software is listed under the Version column
  5. Check the “Messageware – Microsoft CU Compatibility Matrix”.  The PDF is located on the Customer Portal with the Product Updates and should be used to determine the matching Microsoft / Messageware version.
  6. Visit http://m3.messageware.com/custportal/default.aspx and enter your customer number and license key

VERIFY DEPLOYMENT


Identify which deployment matches your current configuration and locate the servers where the OWA Guard components are installed


CONFIGURATION 1: Exchange CAS server only

  • Messageware OWA Guard Monitor is installed on one Exchange Server
  • Messageware OWA Guard Web Management is installed on one Exchange Server
  • Messageware OWA Guard is installed on all Exchange CAS Servers

CONFIGURATION 2:  Application Server and Exchange server

  • Messageware OWA Guard Monitor is installed on one Exchange or Application Server
  • Messageware OWA Guard Web Management is installed one Exchange or Application Server
  • Messageware OWA Guard is installed on all Exchange CAS Servers

UPGRADE


To upgrade to the latest version of Messageware OWA Guard, proceed with the steps outlined below.


Download the Messageware product package

  1. Visit http://m3.messageware.com/custportal/default.aspx
  2. Enter the customer number and license key
  3. Click on the Product Updates link
  4. Expand the view for the desired install program
  5. Click on the Download link for the latest version of the product
  6. Save the Installation file to a location on the hard disk

Uninstall OWA Guard Monitor 

  1. Depending on the configuration access the Application or Exchange Server
  2. Navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
  3. Select Messageware OWA Guard Monitor and Uninstall

Uninstall OWA Guard Web Management

  1. Depending on the configuration access the Application or Exchange Server
  2. Navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
  3. Select Messageware OWA Guard Web Management and Uninstall

Uninstall OWA Guard 

  1. On every Exchange Server (CAS) with OWA Guard installed
  2. Navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
  3. Select Messageware OWA Guard and Uninstall

Applying OWA Guard Update

  1. Extract all files from downloaded zip
  2. You will need to install the software in the following sequence:
    • Messageware OWA Guard
    • Messageware OWA Guard Web Management
    • Messageware OWA Guard Monitor
  3. Reinstall Messageware OWA Guard on each Exchange server (CAS)
    • The World Wide Web Publishing Service will be stopped/started at this stage
  4. Reinstall Messageware OWA Guard Web Management on the one Application or Exchange Server
  5. Reinstall Messageware OWA Guard Monitor on the one Application or Exchange Server

Verify OWA Guard Servers are connected

  1. Login to https://your-server/og-admin
  2. Verify you see all CAS servers in the list that have OWA Guard installed
  3. Navigate to Licenses tab, verify all servers are license

Verify OWA with OWA Guard Functionality

  1. From your client, close all browser sessions you may have open
  2. Launch your preferred browser and clear all browser’s cache history
  3. Login to OWA on each Exchange Server (CAS) individually to verify OWA Guard functionality
  4. Login to https://your-server/og-reports to review your results
