Users are unable to save the default mail client using the ActiveSend configuration Console

SYMPTOM

 

When logging into a computer with a non-administrative user account, the Default Mail Client appears to be blank.  When attempting to select and save a chosen default mail client, the user receives an error and cannot save the default mail client.

 

 

CAUSE

 

This behavior occurs when the URL Protocol registry key and User choice registry keys are missing where ActiveSend is installed

  

RESOLUTION

 

To correct this behavior create the following registry key by following the steps provided below

 

 

1.     Open Registry Editor on the computer where ActiveSend is installed (Start|Run|Regedit) 

2.     Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto

a)     Right click in right pane and select new String value

b)    Provide name as URL Protocol
