Unable to activate OWA Client Suite due to an SSL certificate

This article applies to the following products:
     Messageware OWA Desktop

     Messageware ActiveSend

SUMMARY

When a user attempts to activate the OWA Client Suite software in an SSL proxy based environment they receive the following error:

The server certificate with name 'CN=domain.com, OU=Domain Control Validated, O=domain.com' failed identity verification because its thumbprint ('54683620AC4C4DEF2B344E7A3635B7A0C5759FEF') does not match the one specified in the endpoint identity ('2F4F03DA25CCB50228AB55CA5593181224C0B159').  As a result, the current HTTPS request has failed.  Please update the endpoint identity used on the client or the certificate used by the server .

CAUSE

This occurs in environments where a proxy server is filtering SSL and HTTPS traffic. This causes a certificate error as the SSL certificate that OWA Client Suite products. OWA Client Suite is expecting a specific SSL Certificate and when this is not presented causes an error during activiation.

RESOLUTION

The steps below have an updated DLL that corrects this behavior and allows the client suite products to activate successfully.

1.     On the client workstation, download and extract the following file to a temporary location https://w3.messageware.com/download/support/KB/730_SSL Proxy_OWAClientSuite_MWLicensing.zip

2.     Navigate to \Program Files\Messageware Incorporated\Messageware OWA Desktop\

a.     Rename MWLicensing.dll to MWLicensing.old

b.    Copy over the updated MWLicensing.dll file

3.     Navigate to \Program Files\Messageware Incorporated\Messageware ActiveSend\

a.     Rename MWLicensing.dll to MWLicensing.old

b.    Copy over the updated MWLicensing.dll file
