Users are unable to view attachments in OWA using AttachView in environments where an SSL accelerator is present

SYMPTOM

 

When converting attachments in OWA by clicking the binocular icon, users may receive the following error message:  

 

“There was a problem opening your mailbox. You may have already signed in to Outlook Web App on a different

browser tab. If so, close this tab and return to the other tab. If that doesn't work, you can try:

 

-Closing your browser window and signing in again.

-Deleting cookies from your browser and signing in again.”

 

CAUSE

 

This behaviour occurs when using a third-party SSL hardware accelerator or similar appliance to terminate SSL requests before they reach the Client Access Server/s where AttachView is installed.  

 

RESOLUTION

 

To correct this behaviour, configure SSL Offloading on the Client Access Server/s where AttachView is installed, by following the steps outlined below.

 

 

1.      If using Internet Information Services 6.0 (IIS) Manager perform the steps below

a.      Right-click the Web site where you host your Outlook Web Access virtual directories, and then click Properties

b.      On the Directory Security tab, in Secure Communications, click Edit.

c.      In Secure Communications, clear Require Secure Channel (SSL).

d.      Click OK as needed to save your changes, and then close the properties page.

2.      If using Internet Information Services 7.0 (IIS) Manager perform the steps below

a.      From the Connections pane, select the Web site where you host your Outlook Web Access virtual directories

b.      In the Workspace area, under the IIS section, double-click the SSL Settings icon

c.      clear Require Secure Channel (SSL)

d.      In the Actions pane click Apply

3.      Open the Registry Editor.

a.      Click on start /run

b.      Type regedit to open registry editor

4.      Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchange OWA.

a.      On the Edit menu, click New, and then click DWORD Value.

b.      In the details pane, name the DWORD value SSLOffloaded.

c.      In the details pane, right-click SSLOffloaded, and then click Modify.

d.      In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, in Value data, type 1.

9.      Restart the IIS Admin Service (IISAdmin). To do this, open a Command Prompt window, and then type iisreset /noforce
