Red X appears in the signature window when clicking on the Edit Signature button

SYMPTOM

 

Users receive a red X in the signature window when clicking on the Edit Signature button under the OWA options page. This behavior only pertains to Internet Explorer 8 on a Windows Vista machine .

 

CAUSE

 

This behavior occurs because Windows Vista does not include support for the ActiveX control that is used for HTML editing in Outlook Web Access.

 

RESOLUTION

 

Note : The update should be applied to the Exchange server after applying Microsoft KB911829 update.

 

1.     On the Exchangeserver, launch an IE session and access the link below:

http://w3.messageware.com/download/support/KB/601_Plus_Pack_6_7a_SignatureFix.zip

2.     Download the updated files to a temporary location and extract the contents

3.     Navigate to \Program Files\Messageware Incorporated\Plus Pack for Outlook Web Access\Admin

a.     Rename the ppjs.inifile to ppjs.old

b.    Paste the downloaded ppjs.iniinto this folder

4.     Navigate to \Program Files\Exchsrvr\exchweb\controls\

a.     Rename dlgeditsig.htm to dlgeditsig.old

b.    Paste the downloaded dlgeditsig.htminto this folder

5.     Verify the NTFS permission matches to the existing file

6.     Open up Plus Pack Administrative console (Start | Programs | Messageware Incorporated | Plus Pack for Outlook Web Access | Plus Pack Administrative Console)

a.     Navigate to Refresh Tab

b.    Click on Refresh Now button

c.     Click on Ok and Apply

7.     Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service on the Exchangeafter the above changes are applied
