Users receive an unspecified error when converting Microsoft Office files and PDF attachments

SYMPTOM

 

When a user attempts to convert Microsoft Office files or PDF attachment they receive the following message:

 

Error: -2147467259 Unspecified error (-2147467259 - 0x80004005)

 

 

CAUSE

 

This error occurs if there is a high user load in the environment and the Base Engine under component services shuts down.  The following application error is logged in the event logs.

RESOLUTION

 

The steps below indicate on making a configuration change to the AttachView Base Engine to correct this behavior from occurring.

 

1.     On the CAS, open up the component services (Start\All Programs\Administrative Tools\Component Services\)

2.     Navigate to Component Services > Computers > My Computer > COM+ Applications > AttachView Base Engine

3.     Right-click on the AttachView Base Engine and select Properties

a.     Click the Pooling and Recycling tab

b.    Change the following values:

                                                   i.    Pool Size: 3

                                                  ii.    Lifetime Limit (minutes):  15

                                                 iii.    Memory Limit (KB): 0

                                                 iv.    Expiration Timeout (minutes): 1

                                                  v.    Call Limit: 100000

                                                 vi.     Activation Limit: 0

c.     Click on Apply and Ok

4.     Right-Click on AttachView Base Engine and choose Shut down

5.     Right-Click on AttachView Base Engine and choose Start
