During CalendarShare installation, prompt appears stating Windows Integrated authentication is configured for one or more virtual directories

SYMPTOM

Upon attempting to install CalendarShare, a prompt appears stating that Windows Integrated authentication is configured for certain virtual directories; however these virtual directories do not appear to have Windows Integrated authentication configured.

CAUSE

This issue occurs as a result of configuring the Exchange server with Forms Based Authentication (FBA) on a back-end configuration. Enabling FBA masks the underlying Windows Integrated configuration that is in effect for HTTP (non-secure) connections.

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS

This issue is resolved by removing Windows Integrated Authentication after temporarily disabling FBA. By disabling FBA, the back-end server’s configuration is apparent to the administrator, and the changes below can be made accordingly.

1.      On the server, open the Exchange System Manager (ESM)

2.      Navigate to Administrative Groups\First Administrative Groups\Servers\<Server Name>\Protocols\HTTP\Exchange Virtual Server

3.      Right-click on the Exchange Virtual Server and select Properties from the action menu

4.      Move to the Settings tab

5.      Uncheck "Enable Forms Based Authentication"

6.      Press Apply and OK
NOTE: You do not need to restart any services since you will not keep this setting

7.      In ESM, expand the Exchange Virtual Server

8.      Right-click on the Exchange virtual directory and select Properties from the action menu

9.      Move to the Access tab and Press the Authentication button

10.   Uncheck Integrated Windows Authentication

11.   Press Apply and OK

12.   Repeat steps 8-11 for the Public virtual directory

13.   On the server, open the Internet Information Systems Manager (IIS)

14.   Navigate to <Server Name>\Web Sites\Default Web Site\Exchweb

15.   Expand Exchweb, right click the bin virtual directory and click Properties

16.   Navigate to the Directory Security tab and click the Edit button under Authentication and access control

17.   Uncheck Integrated Windows Authentication

18.   Click OK, then Apply and OK

NOTE: If AttachView is installed on the server, please repeat steps 13-18 for the X-AttachView\bin folder

19.   In ESM, view the Properties on the Exchange Virtual Server

20.   Move to the Settings tab

21.   Check "Enable Forms Based Authentication"

22.   Press Apply and OK
