Users are logged out of their OWA session when clicking the Options button

SYMPTOM

 

When clicking the Options button, the user is logged out of OWA and is redirected to the Exchange Forms-Based Authentication logon page.

 

CAUSE

 

This behaviour occurs is native OWA related, and it occurs when the OWA virtual directory is configured for Basic authentication and the ECP virtual directory is configured for Forms-Based Authentication.

 

RESOLUTION

 

To correct this behaviour, ensure that the ECP virtual directory is configured to use Exchange Forms-Based Authentication. For reference, steps are included below.

 

1.     Open the Exchange Management Console

2.     Navigate to Server Configuration->Client Access and select the desired Client Access Server

3.     On the bottom middle pane, select the Exchange Control Panel pane

4.     Right-click the ecp virtual directory and click Properties

5.     Navigate to the Authentication tab

6.     Select the Use one or more standard authentication methods: radio button

7.     Place a checkbox next to Basic authentication

8.     Click Apply and OK

9.     Open the command prompt and enter iisreset /noforce for changes to take effect
