Errors occur when the EWS virtual directory is moved out of the default web site

SYMPTOM

    Symptom 1 (AttachView)

Users receive a “Failed to retrieve email information. (33 - 0x0)” when clicking the binocular icon to convert an attachment.

 

Symptom 2 (CalendarShare)

Users receive a “Processing Error. Please Repeat” when clicking on the Manage Delegates Link.

 

Symptom 3 (OWA Print):

Users receive the following:

“Unable to retrieve requested resource

The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found”

 

Symptom 4 (Plus Pack)

Users receive the following:

·     Adding favorites do not get saved

·     The following message occurs when performing a Calendar search “Calendar Search Failed”

·     When adding words to the personal dictionary the following message occurs “Failed to Save Personal Dictionary”

 

 

CAUSE

 

The default configuration on an Exchange Server 2007 has EWS virtual directory under the Default Web Site.  When moving the virtual directory under another website, a configuration change has to be done in the Messageware Products. Without the entry the product may not function correctly.

 

RESOLUTION

 

The steps below indicate the configuration changes that are required in the Messageware products.

 

1.      On the CAS, navigate to \Program Files\Messageware\AttachView\Settings\

a.      Right-Click on SWSettings.xml and open with a text editor

b.     Locate the ITEM ID 38 and edit the value to reflect the following change

 <ITEM ID="38" DESCR="EWS path" VALUE="https://<autodiscover_website>/EWS/exchange.asmx"/>

c.      Save and exit changes

2.      On the CAS, navigate to \Program Files\Messageware\CalendarShare\Settings\

a.      Right-Click on SWSettings.xml and open with a text editor

b.     Locate the ITEM ID 38 and edit the value to reflect the following change

c.      Save and exit changes

3.      On the CAS, navigate to \Program Files\Messageware\Common Files\Settings\

a.      Right-Click on CoreSettings.xml and open with a text editor

b.     Locate the ITEM ID 38 and edit the value to reflect the following change

c.      Save and exit changes

4.      On the CAS, navigate to \Program Files\Messageware\OWA Print\Settings\

a.      Right-Click on SWSettings.xml and open with a text editor

b.     Locate the ITEM ID 38 and edit the value to reflect the following change

c.      Save and exit changes

5.      On the CAS, navigate to \Program Files\Messageware\Plus Pack\Settings\

a.      Right-Click on SWSettings.xml and open with a text editor

b.     Locate the ITEM ID 38 and edit the value to reflect the following change

c.      Save and exit changes

6.      On the CAS, navigate to \Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\Owa\

a.      Right-Click on the web.config and open with a text editor

b.     Locate the ewsurl=”” section in the Messageware entries and enter in the following value ewsurl=“https://<autodiscover_website>/EWS/exchange.asmx"

c.      Save and exit changes

7.      Restart the World Wide Web Publishing service for changes to take immediate effect
