Address Check Failed error when using ActiveSend features

     Messageware ActiveSend 8.2

 

SYMPTOM

 

Users receive the following error when sending an email using ActiveSend:

 

“Address Check Failed”

“System Text: A certificate is required to complete client authentication"

 

CAUSE

 

This behavior occurs when IIS is configured to accept client certificates

 

RESOLUTION

 

To correct this behavior, IIS settings may be configured to ignore client certificates. Included below are steps on how to configure IIS to ignore client certificates using IIS6 and IIS7.

 

Configuring IIS to ignore client certificates in IIS7

 

1.     On the CAS, open up the IIS Manager (Start\Run\inetmgr)

2.     Navigate to Sites > Default Web Site

3.     In the Features Pane of the Default Web Site, double-click on SSL Settings

4.     Ensure that client certificates is set to Ignore

5.     Click on Apply

 

Configuring IIS to ignore client certificates in IIS7

 

1.     On the CAS, open up the IIS Manager (Start\Run\inetmgr)

2.     Navigate to Web Sites > Default Web Site

3.     Right-click Default Web Site and select Properties

4.     Navigate to the Directory Security tab

5.     Click Edit under Secure Communications

6.     Select the “Ignore client certificates” radio button

7.     Click OK, then Apply and OK
