Users receive an error message when trying to convert an attachment. "AttachView was unable to access the Active Directory resource. (73 - 0x0)"

SYMPTOM

 

Symptom 1: When clicking the binocular icon to convert an attachment users receive the following error message

 

“AttachView was unable to access the Active Directory resource. This may be because the Active Directory object does not exist of the object has become corrupted. or because you do not have sufficient access rights for the object. (73 - 0x0)”

 

Symptom 2: When opening up the Global Address List in Outlook Web Access, no results are displayed

 

CAUSE

 

The error message occurs if the OWA virtual directory is set to Integrated Authentication.  To correct this behavior, constrained delegation has to be configured on the computer account using Active Directory Users and Computers.

 

RESOLUTION

 

The steps below indicate on how to configure constrained delegation on the computer account.

 

1.      On the CAS, open up Active Directory Users and Computers (Start\Run\dsa.msc)

2.      Navigate to the Computers OU and locate the CAS where Messageware is installed

a.      Right-Click on the computer account and select Properties

b.     Locate the Delegation tab and select the radio button Trust this computer for delegation to specified services only

c.      Click the ADD button

d.     Click the Users or Computers button and enter the name of a domain controller. Click OK to proceed

e.      Select all Service Types labeled GC and LDAP

f.      Click OK to accept all changes

Note: Repeat the following steps for all Domain Controllers in the environment.  There should be 2 LDAP and 1 GC service accounts per Domain Controller

3.      Perform an iisreset /noforce (Start\Run\iisreset /noforce)

4.      Clear the client side browser cache

5.      Users will now be able to successfully convert an attachment
