How to Import Holidays using the Holiday.hol file on the Client Access Server

SUMMARY

 

The Messageware Plus Pack holiday feature reads information from two files: holiday.hol and delete.hol.  The following article will show how to configure the holiday.hol file.  The holiday.hol file contains holidays and important dates and can be imported into user's calendars automatically or manually.

 

 

CONFIGURATION

 

The steps below indicate on where to apply the Holiday.hol file on the Client Access Server where the Plus Pack is installed.  Please see below on how to perform an automatic import and how to customize the Holiday file.

 

Automatic Holiday Import

 

1.         On the CAS, navigate to \Program Files\Messageware\Plus Pack\Holiday\Import\

2.         Paste the Holiday.hol file to this location and exit Windows Explorer

3.         Open up the Plus Pack Management Console (Start\All Programs\Messageware Plus Pack)

a.          Click the Holiday tab

b.          Place a checkmark beside Automatic Holiday Import and scroll down the list to choose the specified county (example: Highlight United States and click the arrow to add the holiday to the Selected Holiday Sections - Add)

c.          Click Apply and OK

4.         Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service for changes to take immediate effect

5.         Login to OWA and click the calendar link

6.         The holidays will automatically appear in the User's calendar

 

Customizing the Holiday

 

1.         Create a backup of the Holiday.hol file

2.         Open the Holiday.hol file with a text editor

3.         Add or remove holidays and important dates using the format below:

4.         Save and exit changes

Outlook 2003 or higher is shipped with a customizable international holiday file.  This file can be used as a starting point in creating a custom holiday file.  The default Microsoft Outlook Holiday file can be found in \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office <ver>\<LCID>\Outlook.hol.  Save a copy of this file and rename it to Holiday.hol.
