SYMPTOM

When trying to update the Logon information in the ActiveSend Configuration Console users receive the following error:

Error saving logon information

CAUSE

This occurs when the local user’s Machinekey has been mis-configured.  This is unrelated to the Messageware ActiveSend.

The Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys folder stores the private key of each certificate on the machine. Whenever a certificate request is generated for the machine, a new file is created in this location.

RESOLUTION

To correct this issue follow the steps below on recreating the local user’s Machine key.

1.     On the client workstation, navigate the following path:

a.     Windows XP:   \Documents and Settings\<User name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA

b.    Windows Vista:   \Users\<User name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA

2.     In the RSA folder delete the contents of the S-1-5-21-* folder

After the correction has been made, follow the procedure below to set the user’s information in the ActiveSend Configuration Console.

1.     Open the ActiveSend Configuration Console (Start\All Programs\Messageware Incorporated\Messageware ActiveSend\ActiveSend Configuration)

2.     Navigate to the Security tab

3.     Enter the User Name and Password

4.     The Machine key will be automatically regenerated

5.     Users will now be able to update the ActiveSend logon information
