Interoperability configuration with Symantec AntiVirus

This article applies to the following products:
     Messageware OWA Suite 2003

     Messageware OWA Suite 2007

SYMPTOM

On Exchange servers where Messageware and Symantec AntiVirus are installed, OWA becomes unresponsive and users are not be able to login to a new session

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the AntiVirus software is running a real time scan on a dynamic file.

File-level antivirus scanners scan a file when it is used or at a scheduled interval. The file scan causes a file to be locked when Exchange Server tries to access the file while it is being scanned. Eventually, this process causes the file to become corrupted or unusable.

RESOLUTION

All dynamic files that are used by Exchange Server must be exempted from file-level scanning. To correct this issue; exclude the MessagewareLogs folder located at the following path from the Virus Scan

\Windows\System 32\LogFiles\MessagewareLogs
