Users receive error messages when sending mail using ActiveSend

SYMPTOM

    

Symptom 1: Clicking on a Mailto link using Internet Explorer

 

Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed

 

Symptom 2: Clicking Send To > Mail Recipient from within a Word Pad file

 

Mail system DLL is invalid

 

Symptom 3: Clicking Send To > Mail Recipient from within Open Office document

 

OpenOffice.org was unable to find a working e-mail configuration.  Please save this document locally instead and attach it from within your e-mail client.

 

CAUSE

 

This occurs when the MAPI configuration on the client workstation has been corrupt.

 

RESOLUTION

 

The steps below indicate on running the fixmapi command on the client workstation to resolve this behavior.

 

1.     On the client workstation, open up a Command Prompt window (Start\Run\cmd)

2.     Navigate to \Windows\system32

3.     Type the following command: fixmapi.exe

4.     Close the command prompt window

5.     Now the user will be able to successfully use ActiveSend from that client workstation
