SYMPTOM

When clicking the binocular icon to convert an attachment the following error occurs:

“Failed to retrieve email information. (33 – 0x0)”

CAUSE

This issue occurs when a proxy server is configured in the environment which blocks the AttachView conversion requests.

RESOLUTION

The proxy server has to be added to the bypass list and a configuration change has to be applied in the machine.config and web.config files on the CAS.

Note: Make a backup of the original file prior to making any changes

Note: Restarting the World Wide Web Publishing Service is required

1.     On the CAS, open up a command prompt (Start\run\cmd)

2.     Type the following command

netsh winhttp set proxy [proxy-server=] ProxyServerName [bypass-list=] <HostsList>”

3.     The CAS is not successfully added to the Bypass list

4.     Navigate to the following location \Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework64\v2.0.50727\CONFIG

5.     Create a copy of the machine.config file

a.     Open up the machine.config in a text editor

b.    Add the following lines to the bottom of the file, above the </configuration> tag

 <system.net>

        <defaultProxy>

            <!--proxy usesystemdefault="true" /-->

<proxy usesystemdefault = "false"

            proxyaddress="http://10.x.x.x"

            bypassonlocal="true"/>

        </defaultProxy>

    </system.net>

c.     Exit and save changes to the file

6.     Create a copy of the web.config file

a.     Open up the web.config in a text editor

b.    Add the following lines under the <system.net> section

       <defaultProxy>

            <!--proxy usesystemdefault="true" /-->

<proxy usesystemdefault = "false"

            proxyaddress="http://10.x.x.x"

            bypassonlocal="true"/>

        </defaultProxy>

c.     Exit and save changes to the file

7.     Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service for changes to take immediate effect
