How to change the size restriction of file attachments that are sent from OWA

This article includes steps on how to change the size restriction of file attachments that are sent from OWA.

RESOLUTION

To change the size of file attachments that are sent from OWA the following two steps need to be applied:

1.     Change the maximum message size through a configuration on the CAS

2.     Change the MaxSendSize attribute on the desired mailboxes

Change the maximum message size through a configuration on the CAS

The maxRequestLength setting determines the maximum amount of data that the Web browser can submit to the CAS. By default, this value is configured to 5MB. To change this setting, follow the steps below

1.     On the CAS, navigate to \Program Files\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\ClientAccess\Owa

2.     Backup the Web.config file

3.     Open the Web.config file using notepad

4.     Locate the maxRequestLength and change its value to the desired value (The value is represented in kilobytes )

5.     (E.g. in the example below, the value was changed to 30000 KB
<httpRuntime maxRequestLength="30000" />

6.     Save and close the file.

Change the MaxSendSize attribute on the desired mailbox

To change the maximum message size sent for a specific mailbox, enter the following command in the Exchange Management Console

      Set-mailbox –id:”mailbox” –MaxSendSize:###

Where <mailbox> is replaced with the mailbox excluding the double quotations, and ### is replaced by the desired size in kilobytes
