How to enable segmentation in an Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 environment

SUMMARY

 

This article includes information on how to enable segmentation on a Per-Server or Per-user basis in Exchange 2000 and 2003 environment

 

 

CONFIGURATION

 

Per-Server Segmentation

 

In a Front-end and Back-end Environment, registry settings have to be made on the Front-end as well as the Back-end servers

 

1.       Click Start>Run>Regedit

2.        Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeWeb\OWA

3.       In the right pane, right-click and select DWORD and name it as DefaultMailboxFolderSet

4.        Right-click and then select Modify

5.        Select the Decimal radio button and enter the value that corresponds to the segmentation attribute

6.        Click OK and exit from the registry editor

7.        Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service for the changes to take effect

             Note: Refer to Microsoft KB 833340 regarding the segmentation attribute values

 

Per-User Segmentation

 

1.      Start the ADSI Edit tool ( Start> Run >adsiedit.msc )

2.      Expand the Domain and move to DC

3.      Under the DC expand and navigate to the OU where the user is located

4.      Right-click the user and select properties

5.      In the Attributes list, select msExchMailboxFolderSet and then click Edit

6.      In the Value box, type the decimal value that corresponds to the segmentation attribute required

7.      Click on Ok and exit ADSI edit utility
