Users receive “File retrieval error. (31 - 0x80004005)” when viewing attachments

SUMMARY

When viewing a file attachment using AttachView users receive the following error message:

File retrieval error. (31 - 0x80004005)

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the File Paths for temporary files and converted files in the AttachView Management Console are either incorrect or do not exist.

RESOLUTION

To correct this behavior follow the steps below on the Client Access Server where AttachView is installed

1.     On the CAS, launch the AttachView Management Console (Start\All Programs\Messageware AttachView\AttachView Management Console)

2.     Select Global Settings, and navigate to the Paths tab

3.     Verify that the Path for temporary files and Path for converted files and make the necessary changes

4.     Click Apply and OK

5.     Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service for changes to take effect
