How to download and apply the Messageware AttachView ISA filter

This article applies to the following products:
     Messageware AttachView 2000

     Messageware AttachView 2003

     Messageware AttachView 2007

SUMMARY

When creating a rule using the IP Range feature in AttachView, under the Criteria tab, it allows the setting up of separate rules for internal and external users based on client IP Addresses. The client’s IP address must be within one of the IP ranges specified in order to meet the rule’s criteria.

When using Microsoft ISA Server with the above setup, where the published rule is configured with the following setting, “Requests appear to come from the ISA server Computer”, all requests may appear to come from the ISA server therefore there may be no distinction based on the client’s IP address and therefor the rule may not apply in the OWA session.

RESOLUTION

Messageware has developed a filter to be placed on the ISA server which captures the IP Address of the client machine and adds it to the request header. This information is then passed to Messageware AttachView on the Exchange server allowing requests to be distinguished based on the machine’s IP address.

To apply the Messageware AttachView ISA filter, please see the instructions below:

1.     Extract all file from the link below into a folder on the ISA server
http://w3.messageware.com/download/support/kb/214_ISA_Filter.zip

2.     Apply the Messageware ISA filter as follows:

a.     On the machine the ISA Server is installed on navigate to the following directory: \Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server

b.    Copy in the MW_ISAWebFilter.dll to the above directory

c.     Register the MW_ISAWebFilter.dll (regsvr32)

MORE INFORMATION

When the setting “Requests appear to come from the ISA Server computer” is turned on, the ISA Server computer replaces the source address of the incoming request hence the packets that are sent to the internal server have the source address of the ISA Server computer.
