How to perform a silent installation of ActiveSend

This article applies to the following products:
     Messageware ActiveSend v4.2 2003
     Messageware ActiveSend v4.2 2000

SUMMARY

This article outlines the steps involved in installing ActiveSend without any prompts.

RESOLUTION

To configure ActiveSend for silent installation follow the steps below.

1.       Create a file called CHOICES.INI in the same path where the ActiveSend installation file is located

2.       In the CHOICES.INI file enter the information necessary to install the product as illustrated in the example below

OUNM=Registered User
OCNM=Registered Company
OKEY=ABCD-ABCD-ABCD-ABCD
OCUS=123
OURL=http://mail.company.com/exchange/

OUNM is the name of the registered user of the computer.
OCNM is the name of the registered company of the computer (optional).
OKEY is the license key for ActiveSend (all CAPITAL letters with dashes)
OCUS is the customer number
OURL is the configured default OWA URL (normally should end in a slash)

Note 1: When using silent mode, a failed install may also end silently. Confirm installation and operation on a computer using a CHOICES.INI file prior to deployment.

Note 2: When using silent mode, uninstallation is also silent, which may be confusing for users who are launching the silent mode installation and will not know whether the product is being installed or uninstalled.  Silent mode is typically used to install the software during an automated process such as logging on to the computer.  Operation should be confirmed after installation.
