Users receive an error when logging in to OWA: HTTP 403.1 Forbidden: Execute Access Forbidden

This article applies to the following products:
       Messageware OWA Suite 2003

       Messageware OWA Suite 2000

 

SYMPTOM

 

Users are unable to login to OWA and receive the following error :

 

  “HTTP 403.1 Forbidden: Execute Access Forbidden”

 

CAUSE

 

The issue is not related to Messageware products.

 

The issue occurs when “Scripts and Executables” are not enabled on the ExchWeb\bin virtual directory in IIS.

 

RESOLUTION

 

To correct this native OWA behavior, follow the steps below to enable “Scripts and Executables” on the ExchWeb\bin

 

1.     Open the IIS Manager and navigate to the OWA website  

2.     Right-click on the ExchWeb\bin virtual directory and select Properties

3.     On the Virtual Directory tab, select Scripts and Excutables from the Execute Permissions drop down option
